Annual Art Show and Raffle Winner

This year – for the first time in a while – the annual art show enjoyed two dry days. We had 406 adult visitors and welcomed dozens of children. Some of the children were prize winners from the art competition we sponsored at our local West Kilbride Primary School. You can see the separate report of the competition results on our website.

We had a great selection of exhibits at the Annual Art Show – 124 in total. We sold 29 items – an excellent result. We would like to give a huge thanks to the artists for their enthusiastic support of the show. The success of the show depends on artists’ support, and we are very grateful to those who exhibited.

Of course, many other people are involved in this event. They include the loosely assembled teams who set up the hanging system and erect and dismantle the marquee; the bakers and helpers at the tea tent; and those who volunteer to take in, hang and sell the artwork. It’s a huge community effort. A heartfelt thanks to all involved!

We do it for the money! The grand total raised this year came to a wonderful £2,248, including £705 from the teas. This is a very welcome boost to the Castle funds, especially following the recent roof repairs.

Thanks also to the visitors who paid their entry fee, bought paintings and raffle tickets, and had some tea and cakes. Hope to see you all next time!

The raffle ticket winning First Prize was bought by Gill Gardner. Gill won the painting of the Castle by Dorothy Bruce. The painting was donated by the family of Margaret McKee in her memory (see the Memorials page on our website). The prize was presented at the Castle by FOPC Chairman, Sinclair Molloy. We managed to sell 319 raffle tickets. The winning ticket was selected by Walter McIansh and his wife from Cumbernauld, who visited the Castle on 1st July. The winners of all the other prizes have been informed.
