FRIENDS OF PORTENCROSS CASTLE: ART SHOW REPORT
This year’s show, held in the Castle on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June, enjoyed pleasant weather throughout which is a great help.
The artists turned out in force and we hung 195 exhibits, along with a display of small stained-glass items by local glass artist Crystal. We recorded 482 visitors, not counting children (or dogs!). Altogether 27 paintings were sold. The teas at South Banks House also were enjoyed by many appreciative customers. In total £2,735.30 was raised for Castle funds.
This event relies on a large number of volunteer helpers. There are teams who erect the marquee and the hanging system, then take it all down again and pack it away; another team deals with the ‘taking in’ of the art work in the very confined space of the Castle cellar and the removal (by ‘human chain’!) up the stairs to the Great Hall; then the ‘hanging’; the assistance in the Castle at the show itself; and the bakers and servers of the teas. Thank you all!
Of course, the event would not happen without the artists who support the event in less-than-ideal conditions. Nice flat walls that allowed picture hooks would be nice, but the atmosphere is unique! So many thanks to the supporting artists. Please come back next time.
